An A&D cruise offers a travelers all the must see sights and inclusions of a river cruise yet still provides the traveler the active lifestyle they are used to living.

Three Categories to make your day the way you want it to be!

Classic ~ History and heritage of local destinations and the ‘must see’ sites.

Discovery ~ This category can be things like cooking classes to painting workshops – immersing you as you travel and explore the local culture.

Active ~ (a broad menu designed to keep you active and moving!) ~ Excursions that keep you in motion and on the go! For example, on the Danube, I personally went on a guided kayaking tour on the Danube and I got to see the Austrian waterways and shoreline scenery from a very unique perspective.

• Canoeing or Kayaking on the Danube
• Hiking up to a medieval castle or a day hike through the forest
• Exploring underground wine caves

In addition to the cruise being more focused on the active lifestyle, Avalon makes it even more special by visiting more unique port cities that are above and beyond the more traditional ports of call that everyone has heard of. Active & Discovery cruises spend more time in each port for exploration (because of the nature of this type of active sailing) and they do more day sailing rather than sailing over night so you can not only be a part of the scenery (biking from one port to the other to meet the ship) but you can literally see more of the scenery you would otherwise miss because of night sailing.
