The True Joy of Travel: Friendship Over Destination

Travel has a way of teaching us lessons, but sometimes it’s not about the destination—it’s about the people we choose to share the journey with. I’ve just returned from a week in Samana, Dominican Republic, and as much as I’ve fallen in love with its stunning landscapes, it’s the incredible women I traveled with that made the trip unforgettable.

None of us had been to this part of the Dominican Republic before, so there was a sense of adventure in everything we did. We rode horses through lush forests to a breathtaking waterfall, swam in the warm, turquoise waters of the Caribbean, and ventured to local eateries that served up flavors as rich as the culture itself. But as we explored this beautiful corner of the world, something stood out more than any scenic view or hidden gem.

It was the pure joy of simply being together.

Life is busy, and it’s easy to forget the importance of slowing down and cherishing the people around us. In the midst of our hectic lives, we often neglect to nurture the relationships that mean the most. But when we take the time—whether on a trip or in a quiet moment together—the beauty of good friendships becomes crystal clear.

We spent hours talking, laughing, and sharing stories. There was a rare sense of peace in just being present in each other’s company, without the distractions of everyday life. In those moments, it wasn’t about where we were or what we were doing, but about the connection we shared.

Travel, for me, has always been more about the memories we create than the places we visit. Yes, Las Terrenas was a beautiful backdrop to our journey, but the true magic of the trip came from the friendships that deepened with each passing day.

In the end, it’s not the photos of waterfalls or sunsets that will stay with me. It’s the laughter, the quiet moments of reflection, and the sense of gratitude for the women by my side.
